As a councillor and former Deputy Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways, I’ve seen first-hand how uncoordinated roadworks wreak havoc on our roads, our economy, and our quality of life. Potholes go unfilled, utility companies dig up freshly resurfaced roads, and congestion soars while accountability sinks.
That’s why I helped Dr Ben Spencer MP create the Transport (Duty to Cooperate) Bill – a common-sense Conservative solution that requires utility companies and local councils to actually talk to each other before disrupting our roads. We need joined-up thinking and a national framework that enforces cooperation.
Good infrastructure underpins everything – our economy, our environment, and our daily lives. This is not about bureaucracy; it’s about efficiency, value for money, and respect for the people who use our roads every day.
I believe those elected to public office should do what they can to make people’s lives better and this would be a small way to remove one of life’s big irritants!
